President TRUMP has broadened his search for the next Federal Reserve chair, expanding the candidate pool from three to approximately ten individuals. New contenders include James Bullard, former president of the St. Louis Fed, and Marc Sumerlin, a seasoned economic consultant. They join existing frontrunners Kevin Hassett, Christopher Waller, and Kevin Warsh.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, initially considered for the role himself, now oversees the selection process. Bessent will conduct preliminary interviews before presenting a shortlist to Trump for final deliberations. The decision-making team includes other senior advisors, reflecting the administration's multifaceted approach to this critical appointment.

This development follows Trump's recent assertion that the selection had narrowed to three finalists. The current chair, Jerome Powell, concludes his term in May, leaving open the possibility of continued service on the Fed board. Trump simultaneously moved to fill an unexpected vacancy on the seven-member board, nominating adviser Stephen Miran for a short-term position.
